Forms in LibreOffice Base

A Form in LibreOffice Base is a user-friendly interface used to enter, view, modify, and delete data stored in database tables or queries.

Forms provide an easy way for users to work with a database without directly accessing tables, which reduces the chances of errors.

What is a Form?

  • A form is a database object.

  • It acts as a bridge between the user and the database table/query.

  • Data entered in a form is automatically saved into the linked table.

Features of Forms

  • Simple and attractive screen layout

  • Uses text boxes, labels, buttons, list boxes, radio buttons, etc.

  • Restricts incorrect data entry

  • Easy navigation between records

Why Use Forms?

  • Tables are not user-friendly for normal users

  • Forms prevent accidental modification of data

  • Suitable for data entry operators

  • Improves speed and accuracy

Components of a Form

  • Text Box – Used to enter text or numbers

  • Label – Displays field names

  • Buttons – Used for actions like save, next, previous

  • List Box / Combo Box – Select values from a list

Ways to Create a Form

LibreOffice Base provides two main methods:

  1. Using Form Wizard

  2. Using Design View
